The first thing you do when designing something where the user can change the background, is try out a variety of backgrounds.

Whats up with Apple? just wow!

"Apple has always placed a priority on protecting our customers’ personal data, and we don’t collect..."

“Apple has always placed a priority on protecting our customers’ personal data, and we don’t collect or maintain a mountain of personal details about our customers in the first place. There are certain categories of information which we do not provide to law enforcement or any other group because we choose not to retain it. For example, conversations which take place over iMessage and FaceTime are protected by end-to-end encryption so no one but the sender and receiver can see or read them. Apple cannot decrypt that data. Similarly, we do not store data related to customers’ location, Map searches or Siri requests in any identifiable form.”

- Apple - Apple’s Commitment to Customer Privacy

Internet for All – Project Loon

Internet for All – Project Loon:

Many of us think of the Internet as a global community. But two-thirds of the world’s population does not yet have Internet access. Project Loon is a network of balloons traveling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and bring people back online after disasters.

This is actually a really cool project. Why does only google come to these kind of ideas? If this works out and we have a good network in a couple of months and everyone is hopping on the loon bandwagon to have internet access, all the data privacy creepers come out and blame Google for locking new markets. Yes they want everyone to use the internet, thats where the google ads are and thats where the money lies, but they try to do new things to keep their market alive and to move forward instead of locking down users with traffic limits like “Deutsche Telekom” and others to get more money out of their customers.

In Germany theres actually a stagnation on service providers for several years now and counting. Can´t wait for Google to fill the gap and kick these old conservative thinking companys out of the game.

Text-align: Justify and Responsive Web Design

Text-align: Justify and Responsive Web Design:

Did you know that one of the most powerful tools for fluid and responsive layout has been a native feature for every browser since HTML 4?

Patrick Kunka found a hack to use “text-align: justify” as a higly compatible layout grid module. Try his codepen example or read his blog post.

"The NSA access system is built into every version of the Windows operating system now in use, except..."

“The NSA access system is built into every version of the Windows operating system now in use, except early releases of Windows 95 (and its predecessors).

Fancywebapps is a PHP + Javascript framework intended to make websites such as the one you’re viewing now easier and quicker to build. It consists of several components that work together, to form a flexible web based desktop. All of these components can be themed with your own artwork, press the “coin” logo in the far top-left on this page to get a new background.

I think there are many developers who don’t realize that most of the jQuery methods they use have native equivalents that require the same or only a slighter larger amount of code to use.
Apple said developers attending WWDC would learn about the future of iOS and OS X.

No, you can’t install that app. No, you can’t have that feature. These are usually compromises to improve the products in other ways. But if that missing app or feature is important to you, it’s easy to be put off by Apple’s refusal to deliver it, especially since it’s done in such an opinionated manner, as if to say, “Not only do we not offer that, but nobody should need that.” As Apple has grown, so has the number of people who have fallen on the wrong end of its opinionated product design. It leaves so many markets, features, and needs unaddressed that many users are effectively forced into alternatives. And two alternatives offer to please everyone.”

-
Marco.org

I tend to think that Android or Microsoft users are users that want to have “more” technology in thei´re lives and Apple users want as few as possible.

With “more” i mean, they want THIS software, THAT Skin or want to configure some boot parameters on their own. Apple users are mostly the other way around. Apple says “use this, it´s the best way to do this sort of stuff”. And most of the time (speaking for myself) they are right, and sometimes not. Technology should be there to enrich you´re current life and not to add some additional (technical) problems.

I think the biggest problem between the different fanboys are the type of thei´re thinking where this whole technology thing should be moving. There are really much different layers on it. Linux users arguing in terms of openess and “coding for fun”. Apple users are heading torwards useability and “getting things done with the best known ” and MS & Android users want both at the same time, maybe?

can´t wait (via...

can´t wait (via https://twitter.com/xstex/status/343143960228810753)

"These men all deserve the success Vesper will enjoy.
